Olympiad

The Veterinary and Scientific Commission of the FCI is organizing a conferance for (practicing) veterinarians during the Olympiad.

In cooperation with the International Veterinary Pigeon Association, a very interesting program has been prepared with two main themes:

• Pigeon animal welfare.
• The special situation of racing pigeons in relation to avian influenza:             
  • The racing pigeon is highly resistant to avian influenza
  • The homing pigeon is a so-called dead-end host for bird flu.
  • Racing pigeons have never spread avian flu. They are epidemiologically irrelevant to avian flu.

The speakers and guests represent and highlight the different situations. The conference is intended to engage with each other and present scientific findings to politicians in an understandable way.
